Ignorance, inability to afford quality food and lack of enforcement has resulted into rampant food adulteration and contamination in India. Food adulteration happens at each stage of food supply chain ecosystem. Causes are not just limited to adding pesticides, using contaminated water during production, using chemicals to ripen the produce, using drugs to get maximum yield, adding harmful preservatives, poor cooking and storage techniques, fungal growth and cross contamination during storage. Poor enforcement of food safety standards has resulted into malnutrition, rise in per capita hospital expenditure and rise in premature deaths. However new initiatives proposed by FSSAI could put an end to rampant food adulteration.

Priyanka Chopra doesn't need any introduction. She has become a well-known figure all across the world. But for her it wasn't always like this. Years ago, she was just another 18-year-old teenager trying to make it big. And, to make it big, she worked very hard and one can say hard work pays and PC is one of the best examples of this. Whether it is modelling, acting or singing, PC has been a head turner, both nationally and globally. With serials like Quantico and Baywatch, she has only upped her glam quotient and we Indians are more proud of her.

Reviving Yamuna

Delhi has no option but to revive its lifeline “Yamuna”. Yamuna’s upstream water serves Delhi’s 70% fresh water requirement and downstream polluted water is being used for irrigation purposes which makes agriculture produce highly contaminated. Though Yamuna starts getting polluted even before it enters Delhi, but once it enters Delhi it turns into a poisonous drain. Before entering Delhi its pollution is caused by fertilizers and insecticides mixed with agriculture runoff, untreated sewage and industrial effluents. Once its water reaches Delhi, it is sucked out from river to meet water requirement of estimated 18.6 million population of Delhi. What Delhi returns back to river is highly polluted sewage and effluent through about 3 main drains and about 19 other drains.

Most of Delhi's footpath's are encroached, broken and uneven, making them extremely dangerous for pedestrian use. Ideally, footpaths should be smooth and even, with no crinkled or unsafe surfaces that can cause people to fall and injure themselves. Even, landscaped and clean footpaths make streets and main roads look beautiful and walker friendly. Though municipalities in Delhi seem to be making efforts in this direction, but they need to focus on standards, creating standard barriers for motorcycles, penalize encroacher's and illegal parking. Number of places footpath's run over drains with open manholes. Spotting an electric pole with open wiring or razor fencing wire running across footpath, that can slit some ones throat isn't rare.
